- Is an Independent Distributorship a franchise? No. Franchises require ongoing royalties or fees.
- What are the general requirements of prospective Independent Distributors? NCI seeks sales motivated, customer focused individuals who are able to work in a deadline driven industry. Previous sales experience is a plus but not required. Prior business experience, financial qualifications, and a proven track record of success are also factors in the evaluation process. Independent Distributors will attend a comprehensive training program in Atlanta.
- What are the financial requirements to be considered as an Independent Distributor? Prospective Independent Distributors will need the ability to meet the working capital requirements which vary according to the type of publication. An Independent Distributor should have at least $12,500. for start up costs.
- What markets are available? We have several markets available at any given time. Availability is subject to change at any time. Please contact us for further information regarding your markets of interest.
- Can I distribute more than one publication? Many of our Independent Distributors distribute more than one publication. Expansion opportunities are available for existing Independent Distributors who have a proven track record.
- How do I apply to become an Independent Distributor? Simply complete the Independent Distributor profile and return it to NCI via email, mail or fax to 770-822-4313.
- How long does the application and review process take? We review all profiles promptly upon receipt. For qualified candidates, the next step is completion of a market survey which is an analysis of the prospective territory. Potential Independent Distributors will also create a business plan. From that point, attendance at a training class is scheduled. The first issue of the magazine is generally submitted to NCI about 8 weeks after completion of training.
- How long is the term of the Independent Distributor Agreement? The initial term is 10 years.
- Can I become an Independent Distributor on a part time basis? No. We require a full time commitment to become an Independent Distributor.
- How does an Independent Distributor make their money? Independent Distributors generate their revenue from advertising sales.
- If there are no royalties or franchise fees, how does NCI make their money? NCI generates revenue from base advertising fees. You earn revenue from charging advertising fees to your advertisers.
- How much money can I expect to make as an Independent Distributor? That’s up to you! This is truly a business in which someone’s success depends on their commitment to the publication and how they run the business.
- Does NCI offer financing? NCI is committed to creating successful partnerships by assisting Independent Distributors with the launch of their magazine. However, we do not provide financing.
- Do I need an office? Actually, most of our Independent Distributors work out of a home based office. Some of our Independent Distributors with multiple publications do acquire office space.
- How long is the training session? Is there a cost for training? Training is a weeklong session at the NCI headquarters in Atlanta, GA. There is no cost for the training class itself, but the Independent Distributor is responsible for the cost of transportation, lodging, and any meals not provided.
- What other support will I receive initially? In addition to training, NCI provides sales, distribution, and production support prior to the first issue. NCI is committed to assisting you launch a successful publication.
- How much ongoing support will I receive? As an Independent Distributor, you are a member of the NCI family. You will benefit tremendously from the support of other Independent Distributors along with NCI resources such as a dedicated Account Manager and a Regional Sales Manager
